Tornhøjskolen is a public primary school situated in the eastern part of Aalborg. The school has since 2013 focused on a broad physical education with the aim of creating optimized surroundings for children to play and exercise.
The general aim is to stimulate;
- – the joy of motion to create a continuing motivation to join sports activities every day
- – an improved physical shape
- – a general improved health and wellbeing
- – readiness for learning.
This aim requires physical settings that inspire to play and motion. A multifunctional use of the areas will create new activities both as a part of the lessons and as a part of the leisure.
The changes in the physical settings of the school have two primary tasks to solve. Firstly, it has to fulfil the aim of the school to stimulate joy of movement. Secondly, it has to brand the school, telling the surroundings that Tornhøjskolen is a modern school of physical education.
